“The Tide is Rising and So Are We: Hope in the Face of the Changing Climate”
Storm Surge, a non-profit organization focused on climate change education and impact in the Newburyport Area, is excited to announce an upcoming event in the Storm Surge Speaker Series featuring Julie Wormser, Mystic River Watershed Association’s Senior Policy Advisor and founder of the Resilient Mystic Collaborative (RMC). Julie’s impact in climate resilience extends back to her role as the Executive Director of The Boston Harbor Association, where she drew attention to Boston's need to prepare for coastal flooding. Notably, Wormser co-authored Preparing for the Rising Tide and Designing With Water and co-led the Boston Living with Water international design competition with the City of Boston and Boston Society of Architects. She holds a BA in biology from Swarthmore College and an MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. The Resilient Mystic Collaborative promotes cooperation among Greater Boston's Mystic River Watershed communities to safeguard people and places from climate impacts. Since its launch in September 2018, the RMC has grown to include 20 municipalities and secured over $61 million in funding for regional climate preparedness projects. Recognizing the growing need for regional cooperation in securing grants and addressing common interests, many grassroots organizations across the North Shore are championing regional initiatives. Following her talk Julie will be joined by a local panel for Q/A consisting of John Macone, Merrimack River Watershed Council, Hanna Mogensen, Merrimack Valley Planning Commission and Erin Bonney Casey, Ipswich River Watershed Association. Storm Surge has been presenting the Speaker Series for the past decade, featuring climate experts, government officials, and community activists. Their mission revolves around educating residents, businesses, and government agencies about the imperative need for action in response to the changing climate.
