Nurturing a Fidelity to Everyday Life: Moving Beyond Acedia. Kathleen Norris’ writings are at once intimate and historical, rich in poetry and meditations, deeply grounded in both nature and spirit, sometimes funny, and often provocative. Join her for an Adelynrood weekend that will focus on the difficulty of maintaining meaningful relationships, including our relationship with God, in the face of the daily demands on our time and energy. “Acedia,” an ancient term for listlessness, is our enemy in this endeavor, but it can be faced and resisted. Building upon her most recent book, Acedia & Me, she will examine the topic in the light of theology, psychology, monastic spirituality, and her own experience. Leader: Kathleen Norris is a poet and author of The New York Times bestsellers The Cloister Walk, Dakota: A Spiritual Geography, and Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith, which details her spiritual journey. Settling with her husband in her grandmother’s house in Lemmon, SD, she joined the Presbyterian Church and later became an oblate of Assumption Abbey, a Benedictine Community. Subsequently, she spent two years in residence at the Ecumenical Institute at St. John’s Abbey in Collegeville, MN. She became a widow in 2003, and now resides in Hawaii, where she volunteers at her local Episcopal Church. Program fee $120 Room & board $200 Total cost $320Program check-in 4:00– 6:00pmFriday
