Newburyport, MA—The Newburyport Education Foundation (NEF) has rescheduled its inaugural NEF Summertime Family Music Festival, sponsored by the Institution for Savings, for Sunday, Otober 23, 11-6 p.m. at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, 5 Littles Lane, Newbury. The festival was rescheduled due to tropical storm Irene.
Called “the Woodstock of Newburyport” by organizers, the event will feature fun for the entire family, ranging from live bands and vintage baseball to children’s activities and food for sale from local vendors. The rain-or-shine fundraiser is planned to attract thousands and raise money for the Newburyport Public Schools.
“We are thrilled by the generosity of our participating musicians, sponsors and volunteers, and hope to see at least 1,000 families enjoying themselves on 8/28 in support of public education. Adults can dance, kids can play, and everyone can have a blast. We’re on a mission to make this the premier music festival on the north shore,”said Jay Iannini NEF Board Member and event organizer.
The entertainment will begin at 11:00 am and continue all day, with activities for the whole family…
• Dance to live music by EJ Ouellette and Crazy Maggy, Whole Music Artist Revue, Liz Frame and the Kickers, and Das Pintos.
• Get into the spirit of 1861-style vintage baseball played by the Essex Base Ball Club.
• Enjoy food available for sale from local merchants, including Oregano Pizzeria & Ristorante, Fowles Market, and a lucky ice cream purveyor to be named later.
• Raise a glass of local craft beer pulled from the tap of the Ipswich Ale Tapmobile, or enjoy wine from Leary’s Fine Wine and Spirits.
• Join in fun activities planned just for kids by the Newburyport Mother’s Club.
Proceeds from the event will support the NEF's 2011-2013 Campaign for the Newburyport Public Schools which will provide a new world language lab, enhance literacy programs, and update and renew technology.
“Musicians, artisans, business owners, parents and kids all have a responsibility to make the Newburyport schools the best they can be. This family event will be the first of many for year to come and is a perfect way to support our schools while getting funky to local music, said Chris Webb of Das Pintos and event organizer. “Hope to see you there!”
