Invisible Youth
To speak about the effects homelessness has on teens and youths, the YWCA is bringing together a panel of experts on Thursday, October 24 at 7 pm. Guests include:
Mark Dones , Mass. Office of the Assistant Secretary for Children, Youth & Families, who will talk about a recently released report that examines the extent of the problem in the state:
Sarah Slautterback, Homeless Education Specialist with the Dept. of Education, Office for the Education of Homeless Children & Youth, who will speak to the impact homelessness has on students striving to complete their high school education;
Deb Smith, Executive Director of Pettingill House in Salisbury, who will share data on the numbers of homeless youth on record with public schools across Greater Newburyport and the support needed to meet the needs of this population;
Anthony Pira, photographer and Founder of the Social Works Foundation, who will speak about his project raising the visibility of the state's 14000 invisible, homeless youth.
