On Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00pm in the lower meetinghouse of The First Religious Society at 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, the Immigration Matters Study Group will host Rev. Robert Waworuntu, pastor of the Immanuel Indonesian Lutheran Church of Portsmouth NH.
For the past 20 years, thousands of Christians have been escaping from persecution in Moslem majority Indonesia and receiving asylum in the United states. Large numbers of these refugees have been settling in southern New Hampshire, especially Dover, Portsmouth, and Somersworth.
Rev. Waworuntu, a native of Indonesia, who received his theological education in Louisville, KY will explain to us why so many Christian Indonesians have fled to southern New Hampshire. Members of his congregation will also be present to give personal testimony as to their persecution in their native land, and their new life in this country.
The Christian Indonesians of southern New Hampshire are pretty invisible to most of us. Please come and meet your new neighbors.
Admission is free and open to the public.
