Free Family Fun Nights at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire are back this fall, thanks to underwriting support from Jane’s Trust. On the first Friday of each month, the Museum will stay open for special evening hours from 5:30 – 8 pm and admit all families at no cost. Fall 2011 Family Fun Nights will be held on October 7, November 4 and December 2.
New to the Museum this fall is the Thinkering Lab, a space dedicated to creative problem solving and imagination. It contains a set of design challenges for a range of ages, interests and levels of involvement, including projects that might be continued at home after a visit. Here, visitors take on the roles of designer and engineer, and also of scientist. Visitors are encouraged to take risks and make discoveries as they put their own stamp on their creations and test their theories in the world. Current activities in the Lab include vehicle design and track testing, and ball maze creation and experimentation.
The Kids’ World Café has now taken on a Mexican theme to introduce the cuisine, language and beauty of Mexico. While young visitors prepare and serve new foods like enchiladas, burritos and flan, café guests can enjoy beautiful new murals and decorations. A "sharing board" offers an opportunity for families to share recipes and traditions with other visitors. Sharing family traditions encourages children and adults to talk with one another about what makes their own culture and other cultures special.
