Esther de Waal: Imagine
Imagine Esther will be looking at Thomas Merton’s use of the camera to enhance the contemplative view of the world as well as the religious poetry of Wales. Many of us today are feeling left-brain weary, battered by the heavy words of the institutional church. This retreat is an attempt to redress the balance by refreshing the other side of ourselves, through the vision of artists and poets. This retreat will provide time for silence and discussion, time to read poetry aloud and to see some of Merton’s photography. Leader: Esther de Waal is an Anglican lay woman, mother, grandmother, and gardener living on the borders of England and Wales. The author of many books, with a PhD from Cambridge, England, she increasingly finds she draws her energy from symbol and image and the visual. Program fee $120 Room & board $200 Total cost $320.
